Mango and Watermelon Breasts: Long, Full, and Properly Supported

Mango and watermelon breasts are long, full and heavy, tapering towards the nipple, which usually points downward. How to recognise the shape, why the band matters more than the straps, what actually helps with comfort and pain, and what the folklore claims about mango women, minus anything unkind.

Mango and watermelon breasts are long, full and heavy, tapering towards the nipple, which usually points downward. They tend to rest lower on the chest and carry much of their volume in their length. The chart's two names are the same shape at two scales: the tapering mango, and the watermelon for the fullest version. At the larger sizes, getting the support right changes how a whole day feels.

What do mango and watermelon breasts look like?

Side-on, the upper chest runs down into a long breast that grows fuller along its length and then tapers towards the nipple, like a mango hanging from a branch. From the front, the breasts can rest close together or fall slightly apart, and the nipples point down.

Because the volume is in the length, the shape can look quite different lying down, leaning forward and standing up. That is gravity, not a change in you.

How do I know if I have mango or watermelon breasts?

Stand side-on without a bra. A long shape that tapers to a downward-pointing nipple, with most of its volume below the nipple and a low resting position, points here. Bottles and bags are the nearest neighbour, full and rounded at the base rather than tapering. Pears are shorter and sit higher. The two sides frequently differ in length as well as size; see One Breast Is Bigger Than the Other: The Honest Answer.

Why do my breasts hurt, and does a better bra help?

Heavy breasts can ache, and some pain comes and goes with the month. The NHS says breast pain linked to periods usually begins up to 2 weeks before a period, gets worse and then goes away when the period ends, and among its self-help suggestions is to wear a properly fitted bra during the day and a soft bra to sleep in. Volume itself changes through the month: researchers who scanned women repeatedly through one cycle found that breast volume fluctuates during the menstrual cycle, so a bra that is perfect on day five can pinch on day twenty.

Pain in one specific spot that does not follow your cycle, or pain alongside any other change, is worth a GP appointment. The NHS notes that breast pain by itself is not usually a symptom of breast cancer, but a change that is new for you should still be checked.

Which bras suit mango and watermelon breasts?

The band does the lifting. Everything else is detail.

A firm, level band. Most of a bra's support comes from the band, not the straps. If yours rides up at the back, it is too loose, and the weight moves onto your shoulders. Sister sizing, a smaller band with a larger cup, often fixes it without changing the cup volume.

Full, seamed cups, three-part or side-sling, hold a long shape and bring it forward. They are built for exactly this.

Deep cups with a high centre contain the full length of the breast so nothing escapes at the base or the side.

Wide, cushioned straps are for comfort, not load.

Minimiser bras compress and spread the shape, if you want a smaller outline under a fitted shirt. Optional.

Shallow moulded cups and demi cups tend to argue with this shape, because they are built for less length.

Sports bras: encapsulation plus compression, with a firm band and adjustable straps, is the combination worth paying for at fuller sizes.

A soft sleep bra, as the NHS suggests, can make nights more comfortable.

What does the folklore say about women with mango and watermelon breasts?

What the folklore says. The Russian breast-shape lists that have circulated online since at least 2007, and that this chart is drawn from, give every shape a character. Here is what they say about this one, with the unkind parts left out.

The watermelon woman is a leader. Some lists call her bold and ambitious, a woman who waits for her moment, weighs the risk and then succeeds where others stall. Others call her generous and open-hearted, the life of the party, and quick to help. The mango, from a different system of twelve fruits, is described as mysterious, loyal and particular about who she lets close.

Ambitious and calculating, or warm and generous: the lists describe the same shape both ways.

Is any of that true?

No. None of it comes from a study, and no study we could find has ever tested whether breast shape and character are connected. The lists name authorities that do not hold up. The "Italian sexologist" is a real author of popular books on the history of erotica, not shown to be a sexologist, and the system credited to him changes from one outlet to the next. The "Japanese doctor" cannot be found at all. The "eighteenth-century Spanish" origin has no source behind it. Where the lists disagree, and they often do, they disagree completely. Read the box above the way you would read a horoscope: for fun, and about nobody in particular.

The short version

Long, full and tapering, with downward-pointing nipples. A firm band does the lifting, seamed full cups hold the shape, and a soft bra at night helps. Cyclical ache is common; a new, specific pain is worth a GP.
