Apple Breasts: Round, Full, and What Actually Fits Them
Apple-shaped breasts are round and full above the nipple as well as below it, usually close-set, with nipples pointing forward. How to tell if yours are apples, which bras go along with the shape and which make it spill, what changes over time, and what the folklore claims about apple women, minus anything unkind.

Apple-shaped breasts are round and full, with as much fullness above the nipple as below it, so the outline looks like a circle rather than a slope. They usually sit close together, the nipples point forward, and they come in every size: an apple can be an A cup or a G cup. It is one of the most instantly recognisable shapes on the chart, and one of the easier ones to fit once you know the one thing to watch for.
What do apple-shaped breasts look like?
Side-on is where apples give themselves away. Most shapes have a gentle slope above the nipple and a fuller curve below it. An apple has a curve both ways, so the profile is round from top to bottom. From the front, the two sides tend to sit close together with little space between them, and the nipples sit roughly in the middle of each breast rather than high or low.
Apples usually project forward a fair way from a base of average width, so the breast looks full in every direction at once. That is the whole character of the shape: fullness everywhere, rather than fullness settled in one place.
How do I know if my breasts are apple-shaped?
Stand side-on to a mirror without a bra and compare the curve above the nipple with the curve below. If both are round and similar, you are in apple territory. Then look from the front: close-set with the nipples central points the same way.
Apples have near neighbours on the chart, and plenty of women sit between two. Rosebuds are also round, but the areola and nipple stand forward from the breast like a bud. Peaches are rounder than most shapes too, but usually smaller and set further apart. Pears are the opposite in profile: a slope on top, fullness below. And your two sides do not have to agree. If one is an apple and the other is not, that is ordinary. See One Breast Is Bigger Than the Other: The Honest Answer.
Which bras suit apple-shaped breasts?
The one thing to watch for is the top of the cup. Apples carry fullness above the nipple, and a cup cut low across the top has nowhere to put it.
Full cups give the upper half of the breast somewhere to go, and are the default that simply works.
Plunges suit the close-set part of the shape. A low, narrow centre sits flat against the chest between two breasts that start close together, where a wide centre would perch on breast tissue.
Moulded T-shirt cups fit apples better than most shapes, because a round pre-formed cup matches a round breast. The size has to be right, though: too small and the top edge cuts in.
Balconettes and demi cups are the ones to try on rather than buy blind. A straight, low top edge is lovely on a shape with fullness below, but on an apple it can press into the upper curve and create the double outline fitters call quad-boob. That is a fit problem, not a body problem. A size up in the cup, or a balconette with a stretch lace upper edge, usually solves it.
Sports bras: encapsulation styles, with a separate cup for each side, hold a round shape better than a single compression shelf that flattens it.

Will my breasts stay apple-shaped?
Probably not forever, and there is nothing wrong with that. Breast volume changes across a single month: researchers who scanned women repeatedly through one cycle found that breast volume fluctuates during the menstrual cycle, so a snug cup on one day can be a tight one ten days later. Over years, weight, pregnancy and age all move where the fullness sits, and an apple at twenty-five may be a pear or a bottle at fifty. A type describes your body now. It is not a label you are supposed to keep.
What does the folklore say about women with apple breasts?
What the folklore says. The Russian breast-shape lists that have circulated online since at least 2007, and that this chart is drawn from, give every shape a character. Here is what they say about this one, with the unkind parts left out.
The apple woman is devoted to the people she loves and does not go looking for anyone new. She puts her home and her partner first, settles early, and is often a good deal cleverer than the people around her give her credit for. Her motto, in one list: my home is my fortress.
Other lists flatly disagree. A different Russian system describes apple women as adventurous, funny, spontaneous and sociable, which is close to the opposite. When two versions of the same folklore cannot agree on the same shape, that tells you most of what you need to know.
Is any of that true?
No. None of it comes from a study, and no study we could find has ever tested whether breast shape and character are connected. The lists name authorities that do not hold up. The "Italian sexologist" is a real author of popular books on the history of erotica, not shown to be a sexologist, and the system credited to him changes from one outlet to the next. The "Japanese doctor" cannot be found at all. The "eighteenth-century Spanish" origin has no source behind it. Where the lists disagree, and they often do, they disagree completely. Read the box above the way you would read a horoscope: for fun, and about nobody in particular.
The short version
Round, full above and below, close-set, nipples forward. Choose cups with room at the top, a narrow centre if you are close-set, and try balconettes on before you trust them. Your shape will move with the month and the years, and none of that is a problem.
