Seasonal Hosiery Rotation: What I Wear and When
I keep a curated hosiery wardrobe that rotates with the seasons. It sounds excessive but it actually saves money because each pair lasts longer when rotated and stored properly.
Spring (March-May)
Transition season calls for versatility.
- 15-20 denier sheers in nude for unpredictable weather
- Sheer socks for the first open-shoe days
- Light colored 40 denier tights for cooler spring days
Summer (June-August)
Less is more but I still wear hosiery regularly.
- Ultra sheer 5-8 denier for weddings and events
- Toeless pantyhose for open-toe shoe situations
- Sheer knee-highs under summer trousers for office AC
Autumn (September-November)
My favorite season for hosiery.
- 50-70 denier opaques in black, burgundy, and forest green
- Patterned tights -- this is their time to shine
- Textured styles: ribbed, cable knit, herringbone
Winter (December-February)
Maximum coverage and warmth.
- 100+ denier fleece-lined or wool blend tights
- Over-the-knee socks layered under boots
- Compression tights for long indoor days
My Capsule Collection
If you had to build a minimal hosiery wardrobe, I would say:
- Two pairs nude sheers (15 denier)
- Three pairs black opaques (60 denier)
- One pair colored opaques (burgundy or navy)
- One pair patterned tights
- Two pairs knee-highs for under trousers
- One pair fleece-lined winter tights
That covers 95% of situations year-round.
