Hosiery for Different Skin Tones: Why Nude Is Not One Color

I am so glad the industry is finally waking up to the fact that "nude" hosiery should match the wearer, not default to one beige shade. Here are brands doing it right.

Brands With Excellent Shade Ranges

Nubian Skin -- Founded specifically to serve deeper skin tones. Their sheer tights come in shades like Berry, Cafe au Lait, and Cinnamon. Prices around $18. The color matching is genuinely impressive.

Heist Studios -- Seven nude shades from very light to deep. Their online shade finder tool uses photos of real skin and is quite accurate. About $35-42.

Snag Tights -- Offers "naked" shades in five tones and they are some of the most affordable options at about $9.

Wolford -- Their "fairly light" to "black" range in the Nude 8 covers about four tones. Not the widest range but the product quality is excellent.

How to Find Your Match

  • Check the inside of your wrist -- that is closer to your leg color than your face or hands
  • Slightly darker is better than slightly lighter. Lighter nude tights on darker skin looks ashy.
  • Order two close shades if you are between -- one will be right for summer and one for winter when your tone shifts slightly

Why This Matters

Mismatched nude hosiery draws attention to the hosiery instead of letting it disappear. The whole point of nude tights is to even out skin tone while remaining invisible. That only works if the shade actually matches you.

Every person deserves to find their nude. Support brands making this a priority.

As someone who works in the lingerie industry, I can confirm this is solid advice.

Can confirm everything in this post. I've been wearing the same one for 8 months and it's held up perfectly.
